Digital Age of New York Fashion Week

  • Sep 9, 2016
  • 1 min read

Everyone who knows fashion lives for the moment of New York Fashion Week. The festivities kicked off on Thursday September 8th and will run until the 15th. Fashion week was once an event for those in the industry, but has become so much more. It is during this time of the year, where designers start showcasing their Spring/ Summer collections for the upcoming year. People would see these collections and have to wait a minimum of six months before they could actually purchase it. Not anymore. The concept of "see-now, buy-now" has changed the way collections will be showed at this years Fashion Week. This concept allows consumers to see and buy the merchandise currently. How does this change Fashion Week, you ask? Well instead of showcasing Spring/Summer 2017, most designers like Rebecca Minkoff, Tommy Hilfiger, and Kanye West will be showing their Fall/Winter 2016 collections. There will be other designers showing the traditional way, but many are embracing the use of technology to show and sell.

Designer Misha Nonoo will be showing a live lookbook collection on Snapchat. Kanye West will be streaming his collection on Tidal and Tom Ford will be airing his collection on E! network, all for immediate purchase. So even though you are not able to make it to the festivities of New York Fashion Week, that doesn't mean that you can't partake in it.
